Algester Parkinson Lions Club

We are a friendly group of individuals who are dedicated to the Lions mission of serving our community. We work hard to help the disadvantaged in our local area and the wider community. We also have social events for members throughout the year. Please check the calendar, in the Events menu on this site, for information on our activities.

We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at the Algester Sports Club, 41 Endiandra Street, Algester

Our motto is   We Serve

FUNDRAISING

At the start of the 2015-16 financial year we met with the Probus Club, the Kyabra organisation, our local Councillor Angela Owen and our State Member of Parliament, Leeanne Enoch. As a result, we now have a strong relationship with all parties involved which has been beneficial to everyone.

We have worked closely with the above mentioned organisations and key local members as well as Algester State School, St. Stephen’s Catholic School and Clairvaux McKillop Catholic School on various activities. These include barbeques and food stalls for Fun Days, Spring Fairs, Halloween in the Park, Multifests and more, as well as running the Annual Peace Poster and Fire Poster Competitions.

In addition, we have:

  • helped foster parents to assemble play equipment, clean up the gardens, fix taps and assisted them to sell the spare parts for a motor car
  • worked with families In our community who needed funds to send kids interstate to compete in sports events
  • supplied a computer, furniture, towels and sheets as well as financial support to people in need
  • helped buy specialised walkers for kids, enabling them to get around
  • helped out as marshals as well as marching at the Anzac Day Parade for the Sunnybank RSL
  • recycled eye glasses.

100% of all money raised is donated to the community

This includes but is not limited to medical research, hospital programs for kids, Care flight, cancer programs and flood and fire appeals both locally and nationally.
A small list of those we have helped includes:
Acacia Ridge EDI Response Group,
Koda Camps Australia,
Motor Neurone Disease Ass. of QLD Inc.,
Australian Lions Children's Mobility Foundation,
Apple ipad & folio for local disabled student,
Lions Clubs International District 201Q1 (fire & flood relief),
Qld Institute of Medical Research,
Lions Hearing Dogs Inc.,
Craft supplies for Red Cross trauma bears, (The trauma bears are supplied by the Red Cross to the Police, Fire and Ambulance Services as well as Hospital emergency departments to be given to children where they have faced or are dealing with a major trauma in their young lives).
And we help many more charities and individuals, too many to list in fact.

We also assist our local community with donations to worthy causes and help on the ground when it is needed. We work with the Kyabra association at Runcorn with volunteer support for their Foster and Kinship service, when needed.

We assist our local schools with fund raising and run a Peace Poster project and a Fire a Safety project in the our area, we deliver letters from Santa to the Primary Schools.

Becoming a Lion

Lions club members are men and women who strive to make a difference in their local community as well as in communities worldwide. Their volunteer efforts go beyond the support of vision care, to addressing unmet health and education needs worldwide.

LIONS CLUB PURPOSES (Abbreviated Version)

To promote world understanding among all peoples,
To uphold good government and good citizenship,
To help those less fortunate,
To join together in good fellowship and friendship,
To encourage open debate,
To encourage others to serve,
And promote high ethical standards.

LIONS CODE OF ETHICS(Abbreviated Version)
Have faith in your vocation and look for a reputation of quality service,
Seek success, but in an ethical way,
Remember that in building up, it is not necessary to tear someone else down,
If a doubt arises, resolve that doubt against yourself,
Hold that friendship is an end and not a means,
Aid others,
Be careful with criticism and liberal with praise,
Build up and not destroy.
